Ms. Luo Zheng, Winner of China Fashion Designer Top Award “Jinding Award” and Chief Designer of APEC leaders’ wear, works with 2017 Phoenix Satellite Television “Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant” and dedicates to tailor artistic haute couture for the beauties in the final contest, which shine at the event.

The 12 sets of dresses created for the beauty contestants by Luo Zheng with dedicated efforts mainly use superior bespoke real silk and yarn and select tranquil and delicate colors under the principle of oriental aesthetics. The elegant and fine colors of vermilion and cyan, lotus pink and lilac match the gracefulness of each beauty. The dresses highlight ethereal cutting in design and adopt gradient dyeing technique and layered design to perfectly showcase the imaginary space and dynamism of oriental aesthetics. The exquisite decoration of feather, embroidery, beads and handmade flowers appropriately illustrates the glamour of “Miss Chinese” who are elegant both internally and externally. Each pattern displays the beauty’s unique individuality and elegance.

记者：可以说一下设计的理念，以及不同元素是怎么加入到不同分组中的吗？
Journalist: Could you tell us the design concept and how different elements have been incorporated into different groups?
罗：在接到为中华小姐环球大赛设计礼服的时候，我们觉得挺荣幸，我觉得这又是一次全新的挑战和创作经历。我在想整个画面的时候就是12位佳丽在台上，背景是一幅非常壮丽美好的山水画的感觉。于是我们把桃花赋、山水青、玉兰颂演绎出来，这都是中国东方文化非常美好的一部分。这次参赛的佳丽们都是90后，是非常年轻、青春的女孩子。而我们的小礼服又比较仙，这个仙就是一种极致的美好。我希望在她们最年轻的时候，花开当珍惜，可以把最美好的系列让她们展现出来。我们的服装就是因为非常有灵性所以很美，能够把女孩子的独特的美丽激发出来。而在工艺上也非常有特点，包括花位，面料的运用，很能修饰脸部，衬托肤色，让她们走动的时候能有那种灵动的美感，有比较多的层次。我也很期待这次华姐的盛会。
Luo: I felt quite an honor when I received the request for designing dresses for Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant. I think it is another brand new challenge and creation experience. In my imagined picture, 12 beauties stood on the stage and behind their back was a magnificent and picturesque landscape painting. So we vividly displayed Ode of Peach Blossom, Mountain-Water Greenery and Ode of Magnolia, all of which are very beautiful parts of China’s oriental culture. All the beauties competing in the Pageant are the Post-90s, who are very young and vigorous girls, while our dresses are quite fairylike, which is an extreme level of beauty. I hope that they will be able to exhibit the best part at their most blooming age. The beauty of our costumes lies in their dynamism, which is able to stimulate girls’ unique beauty. They are also quite distinctive in terms of craftsmanship, including the adoption of flower position and fabrics, which embellish face and highlight complexion, so the girls take on a dynamic look with multiple layers during walking. I look forward to the grand Pageant very much.
记者：每组小礼服都不一样吗？
Journalist: Does each group of dresses vary from each other?
罗：整个风格是统一的，就像整个中国文化中，每个色彩之间是相生的。东方的美和西方的美有些不一样，东方美在于展现一种想像空间和灵性、灵动，而西方的美展现的比较真实具象。我在表现东方美时一定是留有余地给人想像的，所以这次小礼服我们运用了羽毛，渐染，和一些手工绣花。渐变的灵动，饱满的层次，每一层次的颜色又都不一样，非常有想象。在这个过程中就要大量的创作，还有一些新鲜尝试的东西。
Ms. Luo: The overall style is consistent, which is just like in the whole Chinese culture, all colors complement each other. The oriental concept of beauty is a bit different from its occidental counterpart. While the oriental beauty lies in the demonstration of a kind of imaginary space, vigor and dynamism, the occidental exhibits more real and specific things.I always leave space for imagination when displaying the occidental beauty, so we have adopted feather, color gradient and handmade embroidery for the dresses.The dynamic gradient and abundant layers with different colors at each layer leave lots of space for imagination. All that requires much work and trial of new things during the process.
传承东方美学融合当代设计
Inheritance of oriental aesthetics and integration with contemporary design
记者：可以谈谈你的东方美学思想吗？
Journalist: Could you please tell us a bit about your oriental aesthetic ideology?
罗：我对东方美学这么热爱是从02年开始不断参加比赛，06年拿了金顶奖，我每一年都会做一些东方美学融入当代生活的设计，总是有一个系列是表达东方美学的。我觉得中国的东方文化美学非常高妙，并不亚于西方整个审美体系，只是可能我们有些文化断层，没有把它很好的传承和延续。我希望我们的传承是一种创新的传承，是一种结合了当代生活的全新演绎，而不是一味的把老祖宗的这些服装从箱子里翻出来，这对于年轻人来说也是很容易接受和喜爱的。
Ms. Luo: My passion for oriental aesthetics started in 2002, since when I have participated in many competitions. I won Jinding Award in 2006. Every year, I will integrate oriental aesthetic elements into the design of contemporary life and there will always be a collection that represents oriental aesthetics.I think China’s oriental cultural aesthetics is very ingenious, which is not inferior to the entire aesthetic system of the occidental world. But somehow, our cultural discontinuity may result in the failure to inherit and carry on the oriental cultural aesthetics. I hope that our inheritance is a kind of new inheritance, a kind of brand new demonstration that integrates the contemporary life, instead of simply copying traditional costumes. In that case, it will also be easy for young people to accept and love it.
The Post-90s generation of Miss Chinese are representative of oriental new women. I hope that the dresses we have designed for them will enable them to represent the future international image of Chinese women. So during the design, I tried my best to present the most beautiful things of China and those Miss Chinese would showcase them as ambassador of the new era. As a result, more young people will be able to see, spread and inherit the oriental aesthetics that has been passed down through a Chinese cultural history of 5,000 years. Their beauty is something that is special and cannot be copied or reproduced. Some of them may be a bit plump. But it doesn’t matter, because appropriate colors and silhouettes may trim and adjust it. I always think that everything that is natural is beautiful. There are many women nowadays who have the same “plastic face”, which I don’t really fancy. I still hope that every creature has her own unique and naturally beautiful things, which require no trimming through plastic surgeries or other artificial approaches.
Journalist: You’ve got many imaginative ideas. You will include different elements in your design. What consistent design concepts and advice on dressing would you give?
Ms. Luo: I absolutely want aesthetics for the whole design concept of the Pageant. Even a super imaginative design, as long as it is inharmonious and unattractive, will not be my design style.In my design career, I fancy innovative things. I don’t like repetition.So I would use everything, as long as it is harmonious. While other designers complete their design in line with sketches, I do not. I keep making adjustments from the beginning to the middle and the end, with lots of novel ideas and creativity emerging in the process.
Natural Confidence
Exhibit Unique Personal Charisma
Journalist: Is there anything that you think the contestants should bear in mind exhibiting the dresses? How should they show the most beautiful side?
Ms. Luo: Basically no. We have already considered that they will be very confident sitting and walking and also our dresses are easy to put on and take off.So as long as they are natural, confident and express their true selves, it will be OK.I don’t think girls should be very pretentious based on the same standard, or they fake themselves. It’s not beautiful. I like real things.
Journalist: What’s your criteria for the Post-90s champion?
Ms. Luo: I would say it’s wisdom and beauty. The Post-90s are young and I hope that they retain their individuality as much as possible, that they are distinctive and charismatic. It’s even better if they have a sense of humor.But above all, they must have their own opinions, which distinguish themselves from others, and be able to express their own individuality. I really like that.They should be graceful, calm and witty. Still I hope that they possess something of personal charisma.
